Summer Glacier tour
Experience the unforgettable beauty of Vatnajökull National Park as you step onto the ancient ice of Falljökull, one of Iceland’s most spectacular outlet glaciers.
Perfect for first-time glacier explorers, this guided adventure offers an exciting introduction to one of Iceland’s most extraordinary natural landscapes. Throughout the year, the glacier transforms with the seasons, creating an ever-changing world of shimmering blue ice, dramatic crevasses and breathtaking mountain scenery. During the summer months, you’ll also enjoy panoramic views stretching across black sand plains towards Iceland’s southern coastline.
Your adventure begins at Freysnes Service Station, located just minutes from Skaftafell National Park, where you’ll meet your certified glacier guide and receive all the necessary glacier equipment before setting off towards the ice.
A specially equipped 4×4 vehicle will take you closer to the glacier, allowing you to spend less time walking to the ice and more time experiencing it. Once at the glacier’s edge, you’ll strap on your crampons, take your ice axe and begin exploring the fascinating frozen landscape.
As you make your way across the glacier, you’ll encounter remarkable natural formations including deep crevasses, moulins, moraines and unique ice formations sculpted by centuries of movement. Along the way, your experienced guide will share fascinating stories about the glacier itself, the surrounding Öræfi region and the powerful volcanic forces that continue to shape this remarkable landscape.
Whether you’re visiting Iceland for the first time or simply looking for an unforgettable outdoor adventure, Glacier Encounter offers the perfect opportunity to experience the incredible world of Vatnajökull up close.
